15 Times Bollywood Tried To Copy Hollywood And Failed Badly

Nowadays, whenever I watch any Bollywood movie, I become quite sceptical regarding its originality. It seems like I have seen the movie or have heard/read about it before.

We all are well aware of Bollywood's fascination towards Hollywood. Bollywood is also emerging as one of the greatest fans of South Indian movies too. So what's the problem? It's really good to take inspiration. Well, it's good to take motivation, ideas, and inspiration from others and implement them in your own work to make it tremendous and incredible. But here, it is just the opposite. 

Bollywood is becoming a 'Copycat'. They took the story, stuff it with same Bollywood spices (same romantic songs, love angles et al) and presented it as a whole new blockbuster. But it doesn't bring the desired results. And when we compare the original with the duplicate, the results become hilarious.

Here is a list of 15 movies and poster which were copied from Hollywood but failed to achieve the desired target. The imitation appears to be funny. 

Bollywood's Harry Potter

'Aabra Ka Daabra' was released in 2004. The movie was an Indian version of Harry Potter with almost the same story but just some Bollywood faces and twist & turns. The movie fell steeply in the mud of ratings scoring just 2.6/10 in IMDb ratings. Acting, songs, costumes all failed to make it a worth watch. 

Combination of Superman and Spiderwoman

Can't take your eyes from Govinda and Kimi Katkar? Even Superman can't! Bollywood tried something extraordinary. But this Superman-Spiderwoman couple looks funny dancing together.

Horror heights

Kucch To Hai- The movie has nothing in reality. The remake of 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' turned out to be a disaster at the box office. The movie's IMDb rating was just 4.3/10 which shows that it didn't work well.

This wedding wasn't successful!

The producers not even bothered to change the title, they just translated it from English to Hindi. One can put some extra effort to escape from the crown of 'Copycat'.

A flop trial!

This real life couple failed drastically to scribble even one-fourth of their love story on screen. If you really want to get the essence of the story then watch 1995 'A Walk in the Clouds', the movie from which it is copied.

Interesting! 

Inspired from Korean psychological thriller 'I Saw the Devil', the movie ends up being a romantic revenge, where the villain doesn't look like an actual villain.

The name ruined many expectations.

There was a long run confusion regarding the name of the movie. But it brings a lot of disappointment to SRK's fan as the name was just English-Hindi translation of Hollywood movie 'When Harry Met Sally...'. We just hope that Imtiaz Ali has copied nothing else than the name.

The poster looks classic.

Poster of Himesh Reshammiya's 'The Xpose' has some uncanny resemblance to Oscar-winning, 'The Great Gatsby'. But the resemblance is limited to poster only because one is a blockbuster and another super flop.

Beyond expectations!

Heath Ledger, most admired villain worldwide was copied by CID, a SONY TV famous show. What happened next can't be described in words! You can see on your own.

Ra.One is not far behind in the line of Copycats!

This famous poster which electrified you to watch the movie is much inspired or better said 'copied' from the poster of Batman.

They look alike!

This is true! 2011 romantic-drama 'Mausam' poster was copied from all time epic romantic blockbuster 'Titanic'.

Kabir Khan's Phantom's fascinating poster was a carbon copy of famous video game 'Homefront'. 

It'll hurt you!

Isn't it so captivating? Well, you'll get disappointed to know that this seducing and enthralling poster of 'Murder 3' bear resemblance to Jennifer's Body poster.

Don't expect originality!

Phoonk, a Hindi horror-thriller was trolled by the media for its non-horrifying features. Well, scrutiny of these two posters and you'll realise how alike they are to each other. We all are intelligent enough to understand which one is the copy of the other.

Mallika is also in the row.

Mallika Sherawat's 'Hisss' doesn't hit the box office. Still, its poster is damn dazzling! But once again, it's not one of its own kind. It would not be wrong to call it a prototype of King Arthur Poster. 

So these are just a few examples, the list is long enough to summarise. But from all these examples, you can measure the intensity with which Bollywood is copying Hollywood.
